I had a bit of a frustrating conversation today with a person I like and respect a lot! It was (unsurprisingly) about politics, and the difference between what is right because "that's the way we do it here in London" and what is right because if we think about it, the way we've always done it isn't really fair.
Remember the Board of Control?
We can change the way we do things, no matter how long we've been doing them that way, or how uncomfortable we might be with change. I got into this election because I believe change is needed within City Hall, and I believe we can make those changes together.
We already have provincial appointees running two of our largest local institutions because big changes needed to happen. My idea is basically the same, except in the case of City Hall, we can do this locally and by choice.
If the system is working for you, congratulations. I believe there are more people who it isn't working for anymore. We can change it together so it works better for everyone, not just a well-positioned few.
As a City, we have done it before. Sometimes it just takes us a while to get around to it.
We don't have to be last, this time.
